Grade 1: Accidentals : Introduction

There are three accidentals you will be required to know in grade 1, see below.

The sharp The flat The natural

The sharp sign raises a note by a semitone.  The flat sign lowers a note by a semitone and the natural sign replaces previous notes that may have been sharp or flat and puts it back to a natural note.

Accidentals must always be placed before a note not after it.  Notice the position of the accidentals above.  If a note is placed in a space then the accidental must also be placed in that same space.  See below for notes placed on a line.
